What Sewart Andrew said to CFONHS Health policy team
Meeting 09/12/2025
Too much bloating
Patient experience.
Billions extra and still no improvement
Waiting list in some speciality going up and manipulation of data. Will look at DNA charge but worried about politics – worried labour will say privatising.
Equipment- excessive equipment- nhs not taking them back- wasting money – fear litigation if equipment fail.
Clinical negligence- liabity on nhs is 38 billion, japan and sweden changed model and cant claim, (dr chohand said consent are signed, in medicine things go wrong and this can happen if doctors try best)
10 year plan looks at how cancer can be prevented and detected early.
NI increase has led to hospice bed reduced and these will be going to hospital.
Hotel tourism- law in place, but not being acted on
Neil OBrien MP- discussion with Neil about health tourist money for hospices.
British people going to turkery- hair, teeth- coming back and nhs has to take care if mess up.
10 year plan:
- proper implementation plan
- structure of nhs, streamlining- too much buerocracy
- looking at data- different system and doesnt connect- gp, hospital, social care
- improve primary care
- dealing with social care- older people remain
in hospital
Increase frontline force
Dr Chohan- ask about relatives about when assessing caring needs. No pay relatives for care.
Where does money come from to care people. Cost in care: regulations, staff cost, agency cost. CQC investigations can be excessive. 10 authority which regulate social care. Regulation is tough on carehome.
Solution: Boris has good ideas.
PFI contracts are good in principle but contracts lacked proper control. PFI will never be as efficent as bond market pricing.
